Aleksandr Kargopoltsev
Website E-mail
By the age of 4, Aleks was drawing and by age 13 passed the rigorous tests that allowed him to enter an art school in his home town of Kostroma, about 200 miles northeast of Moscow. Aleks attended an art college in his twenties for the Masters Degree equivalency. With his life’s passion, he moved his family to the United States in 1993 and being an avid student of U.S. History, he achieved his citizenship in 1998.
Kargopoltsev produces realistic and impressionist paintings of landscapes, seascapes, still life, and portraits. Aleks paints Plein Air in the field and holds that mental image until he recaptures it back in the studio. Kargopoltsev believes that painting outdoors results in a combination of color and emotion. What you observe, know, feel, smell, taste, and touch is part of the whole painting.
Since settling in Arlington, Washington, Aleks has taught at the Andersen Center in Edmonds, Mukilteo, Tri-Dee in Mt. Vernon, The Gene Nastri Community School of the Arts, and Alek’s Studio and Art Gallery in La Conner.
Paintings by Aleksandr Kargopoltsev can be found in galleries up and down the Washington and Oregon coast, in addition to private collections around the world.

Don Kotts Website E-mail
I was a Minnesota farm boy who came to Poulsbo, Washington in my early twenties and soon became enamored with the sea. Wrangling a ride on an old, wooden sailboat, I spent a summer cruising the waters in the Inside Passage and became convinced that the sailing life was for me. Upon arrriving back home, I soon found myself in Dutch Harbor, Alaska, processing the giant king crab and was introduced to the world of commercial fishing.
That was thirty years ago and in that time I have combined my love of art, sailing and fishing into a lifestyle that continues to this day. Over the years I have sailed not only the waters of the Pacific Northwest, but have built a small gaff-rigged yawl and cruised the Caribbean, spent time sailing in Tonga in the South Pacific, and many ports in between, including transiting the Panama Canal.
I obtained a USCG Master's Licence and used it in the Alaska fishing industry, working on fishing boats ranging from 42 to 350 feet. Today, I still go north, up to six months a year, now working on the super trawlers, the large boats that fish pollock in the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk in Russia.
My intimate knowledge of both the sea and the boats that ply them enable me to paint them with an accuracy and precision that is difficult to obtain without having been there and experienced the play of light on the water, the storms, the rigging of the boats, and all the details that make up a successful marine painting.

David McGranaghan
Website E-Mail
David McGranaghan, born in 1957, was influenced by Impressionism while in high school in Avon, New York. He attended SUNY College at Buffalo, earning Bachelors Fine Art in 1979 followed by a Masters in 1989, at the University of Washington. Davis has lived in Seattle since1981 actively painting. His self-portrait done on a round canvas with a fish-eye perspective, won first prize at the Frye Art Museum?s annual Puget Sound Area Exhibition in 1984. While his small but abundant oil studies of the human figure are notable, landscapes dominate his work, often with a sense of irony in his more prosaic views: usual sights not usually painted. Such urban scenes are like a counterpoint to his obvious love for natural vistas

Walt Meldrich Website E-Mail
Four years ago, I left my career in business after 30 years with some frustration. It was no longer rewarding for a lot of reasons, and I really wanted something creative to do. I wandered into a bookstore one evening and happened upon an meeting of poets who were reading their works and I was fascinated. So I stayed and listened until they were done. These were regular people who wrote some quite beautiful words. OK some of them were somewhat on the funky side but so what. I realized that I needed to do something like that, but I was no creative writer so what should it be? Since I had been dabbling with this art thing I decided to try it. Since I had no idea how to start, I pulled out an old book on drawing that I had kept around since the 70’s and began to draw virtually every day. After thrashing around for some time on my own, I began formal study with Danila Rumold, an abstract painter in Seattle , who helped me to master the basics of making art and introduced me to charcoal, ink, water color and oil painting. Danila is a young woman of great depth, and we endlessly philosophized about art as well as working at it. It was a fortunate beginning because I have always felt that art is more than just technique and with Danila I found that to be true. I found myself drawn to all kinds of subjects but my emerging interest was in landscapes. In 2005, I began study with Ned Mueller, a internationally renowned painter, in order to develop my skills in landscape painting. Ned was instrumental in teaching me the fundamentals of composing and painting a landscape along with encouraging the flexibility to allow the subject matter to inspire the painting without being literal in the rendering. Ned really helped me with the real thingpainting from life and I made a great friend in the process. I am still amazed at how difficult it is to execute outdoors with limited time and he makes look easy. Later I did more studying with Alex Kargopoltsev, a Russian impressionistic painter. Alex took things a step further by encouraging experimentation with brushwork and coloragain from life. More recently, I have studied with Lianna Bennett. Lianna has helped greatly with design and compositionperhaps the bedrock of good painting. I still work with Ned and Lianna on and off, but most of my work is in the studio where I feel like I can try anything.

George Milliken E-Mail
After Princeton, when I discovered that a career in architecture was not for me, I entered the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating three and a half years later with a degree in Fine Arts. And then I did not paint again for 25 years pursuing instead a livelihood in advertising and marketing.
While living in Los Angeles in the 70's I took up watercolors, a medium I had never studied. I was lucky enouugh to have two large one-man shows that helped jump start my reputation.
Retiring in1999 my wife and I moved to the Oregon coast where I was influenced by such nationally known watercolorists as Katherine Davis and Jan Kunz. We traveled extensively and I have painted landscapes, marine scenes and architecture in Europe, Africa and Asia.
We moved to Gig Harbor, Washington in 2004 and I began to paint more Northwest landscapes and rekindled my love of boats and water. I am a Director of the Peninsula Art League, a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and have been juried into the two oldest professional painting groups in the United States -- The Pugrt Sound Group of Northwest Painters and the American Artists Professional League (aka The Salamagundi Club).

I grew up in Seattle Washington where I developed my love for nature and the mountains. . After graduating from the University of Washington, I spent the next 33 years satisfying my creative needs as a carpenter and builder in the Puget Sound area. I specialized in unique one of a kind residential remodels and custom new homes. In retirement I discovered painting as a way to satisfy my desire to be creative and stay connected to nature and the mountains. I enjoy painting things the way I fantasize them to be. I am self taught and love the experience of seeing a painting develop, as I develop my technique. I am working mainly with acrylics on canvas.
